To Assist SEAMEO members States in advancing their TVET systems by providing relevant and effective programs and services towards sustainable development of the region, the 31st SEAMEO VOCTECH Governing Board Meeting of the SEAMEO VOCTECH Center, a leading centre in Advancing TVET for Southeast Asia and beyond based in Brunei Darussalam, was held on 6th October 2020 at 7:30 am (Myanmar Standard Time) with the video conferencing. Dr. Sai Kyaw Naing Oo, Director General of the Department of Technical and Vocational Education and Training attended the said meeting.
The Governing Body meets annually in ASEAN member countries, and this year as the online meeting chaired by Brunei Darussalam. In this meeting, the Governing Body first discussed the activities of SEAMEO VOCATECH in 2019-2020 Fiscal Year. The Chairman and members of the Governing Body cordially discussed the programs to be carried out during the Fiscal Year (2020-2021); coordination with other partners for the development of TVET sector in member countries; Professional Development; Research and Development; Knowledge Management; Organizational Sustainability and Corporate Social Responsibility; the arrangements for conducting capacity building trainings in each sector related to sustainable development.
Then, members of SEAMEO VOCTECH Governing Body presented their respective understanding and exchange of experiences on TVET sector development in ASEAN member states. Director General of DTVET, Dr. Sai Kyaw Naing Oo called for the expansion of quality TVET training courses in line with the local needs for the current development of TVET sector in Myanmar, implementation of management improvement strategies, implementation of strategic implementation plans for each Fiscal Year, public-private partnerships to develop TVET sector, challenges and priorities areas were presented.
In addition, DTVET also discussed in the process of drafting NESP (2021-2030) by the Ministry of Education and NESP’s focus on compatibility with Industry 4.0. SEAMEO VOCTECH approval of discussion related to offering training to be continued in 2021-2022 Fiscal Year: Professional Development Training for TVET Teacher on Industry 4.0; Integrating Industry Needs in curriculum Development training; Equipping TVET Personnel with Mixed Methods; Development Assessment Tools; Development of Online Skills Assessment Tools ICT Training for Reaching Remote Area were proposed to offer.
The 13th SEAMEO VOCTECH Governing Board Meeting was attended by member countries: Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Lao People’s Democratic Republic, Malaysia, the Republic of the Union of Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, members of the Governing Body of the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste and Vietnam, Director and responsible persons of SEAMOE VOCTECH Center and representatives of SEAMEO VOCTECH partner organizations.
